The Galilee Center began on July 29, 2010. Stationed under the shade of a tree in Thermal, California, the founders, Gloria and Claudia, along with 12 enthusiastic volunteers, provided food baskets to 100 families who came to the location. Every week, the committed group of volunteers returned to set up tables, package food, and ensure everything was ready for distribution. Today, more than 400 families benefit each week.
Since 2013, the Galilee Center has operated in its facility in Mecca and helps more than 450 families a week with services that include:
Food Distribution - Provides food baskets to 350-400 families every Thursday.
Clothing Vouchers-Families who cannot pay or have experienced misfortune receive vouchers for clothing, shoes, household items, and furniture.
Rental Assistance-Families can apply for rental assistance once a year.
Utility Assistance - Helps with the electric and gas bill once a year.
Infant Services - Baby food, formula, diapers, and wipes are given to families with babies.
Senior Services-Protein shakes and adult diapers are given to adults 55 and older.
Backpack and School Supplies are distributed to school-age children every August.
