Braille Institute

About the Organization

Braille Institute offers a full slate of free holistic programming for around 25,000 adults, teens, and children each year. Our services are available in English and Spanish, at our centers, online, and over the telephone.

Core services include:

• Training in adaptive skills for daily living that lead to increased self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.

• Low vision rehabilitation services that teach how to maximize remaining sight through adaptive strategies and assistive devices.

• Orientation & Mobility training, which teaches adults how to safely navigate environments using a white cane, sensory awareness, and/or GPS tools.

• Training on specially-designed assistive technologies (including braille display devices and video magnifiers) and mainstream devices such as smartphones and tablets with assistive features.

• Support groups, classes, seminars, and workshops that support health/fitness, emotional wellness, stress reduction, creative expression, and lifelong learning.

• Our library provides books and other materials in accessible formats, including digital downloads, to people who are unable to read standard print.
